When I first joined JALBOOT as a Finance Manager responsible for overseeing the Finance department, I had no idea how this journey would shape my career and life. Today, after four enriching years, I reflect on the significant milestones, challenges, and profound impact this international company has had on me.
Three compelling reasons drove me to become a part of JALBOOT.
Firstly, the attractive remuneration package they offered was hard to resist.
Secondly, JALBOOT operates in a unique industry that I had no prior experience
in, making it a thrilling opportunity for personal growth. Lastly, the fact
that it is an international company piqued my interest and offered a chance to
broaden my horizons.
Throughout my tenure at JALBOOT, I had the privilege of leading
several initiatives that have left a lasting mark on the company:
Internship Program: We initiated a program that provided
paid internships to school leavers, enabling them to gain valuable experience
across various company departments.
Marketing Department: Establishing the marketing department, and making a significant impact,
particularly in the realm of social media.
Quality Assurance: Setting up the Quality
Assurance department, ensuring that our service levels consistently meet the
highest standards.
Boat Shows: Actively participated in boat
shows to promote the company and broaden our reach within the marine industry.
Navigating the marine industry was an overwhelming challenge,
especially for someone with no prior experience. Additionally, addressing
procedural issues and changing certain behaviors to
align with finance policies posed its own difficulties. However, these
challenges provided me with invaluable learning experiences.
Career Progression:
My journey at JALBOOT has been characterized by continuous
growth. I evolved from Finance Manager to Head of Finance, then to Chief
Commercial Officer, and ultimately, I now hold the position of Chief Financial
Officer.
A defining moment in my career at JALBOOT was when the CEO
entrusted me with handling day-to-day operational matters, particularly during
my tenure as Chief Commercial Officer. This experience allowed me to delve into
operational challenges, gain confidence, and develop the leadership skills necessary
to steer a company of JALBOOT's stature.
Key Takeaways:
My time at JALBOOT has enriched me with a deep understanding
of water transport, water sports, diving, and marina management, opening doors
to new knowledge and expertise.
I am immensely grateful to my mentors, for their unwavering
support, guidance, and inspiration. JALBOOT's friendly and non-hierarchical
company culture perfectly aligned with my values, fostering an environment
where I could thrive.
Looking ahead, I aspire to contribute to JALBOOT's growth in the Maldives and beyond.
My goal is to inspire the staff to be ethical, true to themselves, and always
strive for excellence.
To newcomers and colleagues, I would like to emphasize that JALBOOT
is a fantastic company with immense potential. Stay committed, ethical, and
true to yourselves, and success will be inevitable.
I extend my sincere appreciation to the esteemed Jalboot board, with a special
acknowledgment to Tom, and the former CEO, Mr. MO, as well as the current CEO,
